Friends of the Library Volunteer Opportunities

Second-Hand Prose

Volunteers are always needed for three-hour shifts. Workers sell books, keep the shelves in alphabetized order, and shelve new titles. Permanent shifts or substitute positions are available.


This team of volunteers creates promotional materials for FOL events. Computer experience required.


Volunteers needed to serve on the Fund Raising Committee and for special projects like the Hill Country Authors Series, Book-a-Day Calendar Sales, or Fish City Grill’s First Tuesday program.

Collector’s Corner

These volunteers work closely with the SHP sorting team. They determine price and write descriptive listings for each book, then upload book information (with photo) for sale on and Ebay. Currently there are no open volunteer positions.


Committee volunteers needed. Duties include writing copy, sending announcements, making copies, distributing fliers and using the paper cutter.

Website and Database

Savvy computer skills/experience are required for these volunteer team members. They maintain our online content including our WordPress website. Additionally, they manage the membership database and generate reports.

Georgetown Public Library Volunteer Opportunities

The Georgetown Public Library has volunteer opportunities for adults, teens (13-17), and anyone 17 or older who wishes to do community service. Areas of responsibility include working at the check-in desk, shelving books and other day-to-day duties.
