Little Poppy Learners

We are proud to announce that, through the Eric Lashley Trailblazer Grant, the Friends of The Georgetown Public Library are funding a brand-new early literacy initiative at the Georgetown Public Library: Little Poppy Learners.

Launching on May 1, 2025, this joyful program is designed to help families prepare their children to read before they begin kindergarten. Parents and guardians are invited to pick up a reading tracker and begin the journey of reading 500 books before age five.

Children who complete the program will receive a commemorative photo, a Little Poppy Learners tote bag, a certificate of completion, and a free book—all provided at no cost. Their names will also be added to the Poppy Garden, a semi-permanent window display in the Library’s children’s room honoring their achievement.

Participation is free and open to all library users. Trackers and prizes are available at the children’s desk.

We are honored to support this inspiring program that encourages families to read together and builds a strong foundation for lifelong learning.
