On November 4, 1965, a small but determined group of library advocates placed an announcement in the Williamson County Sun—and with that simple act, the Friends of the Georgetown Public Library was officially born.
Their mission was clear from day one: rally community support, raise funds, and help the Georgetown Public Library grow into a vibrant, lifelong learning hub for all residents. What began as a modest call for membership quickly evolved into a passionate, volunteer-powered organization dedicated to strengthening literacy, access, and enrichment across Georgetown.
Over the past six decades, the Friends have funded thousands of books and materials, sponsored countless programs, supported beloved events like Tales on the Trail, and championed improvements that continue to shape the library experience today. Our volunteers, donors, and board members have always understood one truth: a great library makes a great community.
As we celebrate 60 years since that first announcement, we honor the founders who saw what our library could become—and we celebrate the generations of Friends who have carried their vision forward.
Here’s to the next 60 years of service, connection, and community.
