SUMMARY:Hill Country Authors Series with Sarah Bird
DESCRIPTION:The Hill Country Authors Series\, sponsored and run by the FOL\, returns on Thursday\, February 22. It features award-winning Austin author\, Sarah Bird\, discussing her latest novel\, Last Dance on the Starlight Pier. The historical fiction novel blends the enthralling world of dance marathons during the Great Depression\, with characters based on famous Galvestonians from the 1930’s. \nBird is no stranger to historical fiction. She is a two-time recipient of the Best Fiction Award and a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Texas Institute of Letters. She also has several screenplays and 11 mainstream novels to her credit\, including Daughter of a Daughter of a Queen as well as the non-fiction work\, A Love Letter to Texas Women. \nSarah will give a 20-30 minute presentation\, followed by a 15-20 minute question and answer session. Refreshments are included in the admission price and will be served by Sweet Lemon Kitchen.  Lark and Owl Booksellers will be on hand to sell copies of Last Dance on the Starlight Pier\, which Sarah will be happy to sign. \nTickets are $17 in advance through February 20.$20 at the door; if available. \n			Fill out my LGL Form!

He will discuss his novel\, Hannah: The Lighthouse Girl of Newfoundland. \nThe book is set in 1927 and was inspired by stories told to him by his mother. Nine-year-old Hannah is unsure what to expect when her large family moves from the fishing village where they have always lived to an isolated lighthouse on the coast of Newfoundland. The book chronicles all she faces\, from the fury of Mother Nature and illness to the Great Depression and World War II. \nMr. Ladolcetta is an American-born grandson of a Newfoundland lighthouse keeper. This is his first historical fiction novel. \nTickets are $17 in advance and are on sale through May 9.  You may also buy tickets at the door the day of the event for $20 as available. DESCRIPTION:Hill Country Authors’ Series Returns in February\n												\n																										 \nThe program features noted regional author Stephen Harrigan\, who will discuss his latest novel\, The Leopard is Loose. \nThe Leopard is Loose is based on the true events of a leopard escaping from the Zoo when Harrigan was a child in Oklahoma City. \nHarrigan is the author of twelve books of fiction and non-fiction\, including The Gates of the Alamo\, which became a New York Times bestseller and Notable Book\, and received a number of awards\, both regionally and nationally. His non-fiction work\, Big Wonderful Thing\, a sweeping narrative of Texas from prehistory to the present\, was published in 2019 by the University of Texas Press.  \nThe event takes place Thursday\, February 9 at 2 p.m. in the Friends Room at the Georgetown Public Library. \nDoors open at 1:30. Tickets are $17 in advance and $20 at the door. \nLimited ticket sales will occur on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1-4 p.m. in Second-Hand Prose\, upstairs in the library. \nRefreshments are included in the cost and will be served by Sweet Lemon Kitchen. \nLark and Owl Booksellers will be on hand to sell copies of The Leopard is Loose\, which the author will be happy to sign. \nPurchase Tickets\nTickets are now available to purchase online through February 7\, 2023.  Complete the form below to make your purchase. \nTickets on sale January 9 to February 7 while supplies last.
